Shakira’s Waka Waka (This time for Africa) is a good example of globalisation. The song was created for one of the world’s greatest global events, the World Championship in football in South Africa, the first on the African continent. The song is sung by Shakira from South America, one of the world’s greatest stars. She sings in both Spanish and English (in this video also in Fang), together with the South African group Freshly Ground. The song combines rhythms and music from both South America and Africa. The video also shows people and football players from all over the world. The traditional African soldiers’ song the music is based on became one of the most successful songs and videos in the world.
